...IT WAS STRANGE, ALMOST SURREAL. PEOPLE ARRIVED FOR THEIR SHIFTS WITHOUT HAVING WORK TO DO, KEPT ALIVE A FACTORY THAT NO LONGER EXISTS, REFUSED TO ACCEPT THEIR FATE...
"95" tells the story of the struggle of workers at the Dutch multinational Budelpack in Barcelona in the winter of 2008. From the moment they received a letter – announcing the suspension of payments – until the closure of the factory they had spent 35 years working side by side.
For months they have experienced a strange situation inside the factory, almost surreal. People arrived for they shifts without having work to do, killing
time with activities such as dance classes, hairdressing, cineclub, everything to
keep their positions.
Finally they obtained a court order to output the latest raw materials and
generate their fi nal salaries. A small triumph where satisfaction and anger
was mixed in equal parts, which eventually led to various disputes and personal conflicts.
We are now experiencing a time of global crisis and “95” is the portrait of an
uncertain future. This documentary isn´t about a labor dispute. The real issue is the process of disintegration of a factory and the lives of their workers, obliged to face a rough future, without loosing the faith and a sense of humour.
